With the colder weather creeping in and the layers adding up, people are starting to wonder which colors make the best match this time of year. If you read the September issue of Vogue (Charlize Theron was on the cover) you were informed that red is the color for fall. You also might have seen the 'Into The Woods: Little Red Riding Hood' thirteen page spread (incredibly genius). I have seen this color literally everywhere since reading about this. This isn't just a shade of red or pink, it's vibrant, strong and festive. From hats, scarves, and gloves to pea coats and dresses, red makes the statement.
I am a fiend for coats and jackets of any kind. I have noticed, however, that black is the only color that seems to do me any kind of justice. I've tried grey, charcoal, green, royal blue, periwinkle, mustard yellow.. None of them work for me. So here's hoping for the millions of women that look wonderful in red!
Here are some jackets and coats from Nordstrom that caught my eye:
Now that you know what color is going to be used (a lot), let's talk about what style of coat is the most talked about this season: The Trench. This style is timeless, frankly, it never goes out of style. Designs for the trench have been done over and over throughout the decades. I loved seeing them used on the runway and in stores. They really do fit every shape so well. This year I see more of the pattern and fabric being altered with. There's plaid, houndstooth, chains, buckles, double-breasted, single-breasted, short, long, mid-height and can be worn dressed up or dressed down.
Saks Fifth Avenue has some of the best looking trenches:
For the more economical crowd..
Gap and Banana Republic have also jumped on the trench coat bandwagon:
